After my visit to Twisted Sister and their incredible Banana and Chocolate cupcake, I was headed to Sweet Mandy B’s. Along the way, I hit an AWESOME side-track. CB2! I am sure some if not most of you are like “Yeah, so what? Those are everywhere.” Well, not here in Wisconsin. Hell, we just got our first Crate and Barrel a little over 2 years ago. So, of course I stopped…I will not detail the ooo’s and ahhh’s but you will see the benefits of this stop on my own cupcake photos in upcoming months.
OK, back to Sweet Mandy B’s; the shop is a mile or so west of DePaul University. I found a parking place, a FREE parking place, just a half block up from the bakery. Wow, rock star! I knew then, I would be walking to the rest of my haunts, just to get the most out of my awesome parking situation.
Sweet Mandy B’s is sweet and white and shabby chic. Exactly what I would envision a cupcake shop to be. Again, it smelled incredible and it was BUSY. I mean busy like a bunch of bumble bees. Yes, there were several people in line to buy cupcakes, but there was easily 12 people behind the counter baking, mixing, packing, frosting…apparently they had a big order due.
I ordered the Creamsicle Cupcake. It was a light citrus cake with a fabulous orange-crème buttercream frosting. Damn good frosting. The cake was good, but I can not rave over it, it was a decent cake. ‘Nuff said.

One of my best friends was a kitchen manager here for a few years- she gave me their frosting recipe, but they use cake mix for the actual cake, which I think is why it's always good but nothing super special. I agree that Swirlz has improved, as well. You know my heart belongs to The Bleeding Heart, though!

The creamsicle is the worst! The banana chocolate chip with chocolate frosting and strawberry cupcakes with vanilla butter cream are to die for!
