Chicago Cupcake Run: Swirlz Cupcakes

Swirlz Store Front

The next stop along my cupcake tour was to Swirlz. Unlike all of the other bakeries I visited, I had been to Swirlz before; but looked forward to my return. About a year ago I did a day trip to Chicago with a couple of friends – including my BFF Bob – and we went to Swirlz and Cupcakes. Cupcakes did not leave a lasting impression, so I did not visit them this time around. I did however, remember that Swirlz had awesome frosting, so I made a point to visit Swirlz again. Rather than traditional cream cheese or buttercream, they use a homemade Italian Buttercream, which incorporates a meringue-like combination to create a delicious creamy, light bit of pure bliss.

Mexican Hot Chocolate Cupcake @ Swirlz

After a short stroll through the De Paul campus, I was thrilled to see on the front door that they had their special cupcake for Cinco de Mayo – Mexican Hot Chocolate. Olé! I was so excited, as I LOVE spicy chocolate. Unfortunately, it was a timid attempt at cupcakes with a kick, but the frosting more than made up for it. As you can see, this is probably the prettiest little cupcake ever. All of their cupcakes are so beautiful, with their signature rippled ribbon of buttercream. The gals at Swirlz produce the most beautiful, feminine little cuppies – the prettiest of the lot, in my humble opinion.
