postheadericon IRON CUPCAKE MKE: Flavors of Milwaukee

With a theme like FLAVORS OF MILWAUKEE, the possibilities tonight were endless. Our bakers were wound up, the drinks were flowing and the not-so-subtle cupcakes innuendos were running amouk.

Tonight was the first entry of Miss Cupcake, also known as Ashley. She brought us her (Ger)Man Cakes. A chocolate sour kraut cupcake with a beer cheese frosting. The kraut gave the cake a nice moistness and no odd aftertaste as one would think it might. Welcome Ash, we are glad to have you!

Susie came back and brought her Calatrava Cupcake, a sweet vanilla cupcake with a white chocolate miniature Calatrava on top. Wow! I am sure a lot of us thought about how to go to this place, but I didn't think anyone would actually pull it off! Good Job!

Josh represented with the sports approach, his Miller Park Nachos cupcake was the embodiment of this baseball stadium delicacy, right down to the cheese sauce topping and gnarly jalapeno chunk!

After a failed attempt at creating a sugar version of the Mitchell Park Domes, my entry was the State Fair Cream Puff Cupcake. A sweet butter cake with classic homemade whipped cream topping and homemade puff. A friend of Ashley's was overheard giggling that "the cream is getting all over my face!"

Brendan and Jeff, our own Frat(ellos) Boys, teamed up tonight. Their goal, to bring the prize home to Fratellos. They didnt do one or two cupcakes, but SIX; an ode to Milwaukee summer fun...ingenious.

Festa Italiana - Basil Garlic Cupcake with Bruschetta Frosting. A little savory, a little sweet. Yum.

Mexican Fiesta Cupcake - Tres Leches Cupcake with homemade Whipped Cream. Olé! Creamy, Gooey, Milky - Brendan's "milk was splooging everywhere!"

German Fest Cupcake - Achtung Baby, a classic German Chocolate.

Pridefest Cupcake - Rainbow colors and lots of booze made up this big gay cupcake. (Too many silly comments to repeat on this one.)

Wisconsin State Fair - Twinkie-style cake, battered and deep-fried (only thing missing was the stick!) Let's just say, this one was A-FREAKIN-MAZING. I would marry both of these men if it meant I would get to eat these on a regular basis.

last but not least...

Tonights WINNER!
Irish Fest Cupcake - Guinness Cake with Guinness Mousse and Jameson Cream Frosting.

Yep, Jeff and Brendan really went all out tonight. CONGRATS GENTLEMEN, Fratellos brings home the prize!

NEXT CHALLENGE:
CEREAL, October 6

Such creativity! Makes me wish I were a better baker so I could join you. (In theory, I know how to bake. In practice, I need the exact recipe written down for me and do far better if there are photos. *sigh*)
