Michelle and Vinny Garcia have really done it this time. Back to revere Bravo's Top Chef Masters series, and its winner Rick Bayless. They have created this spicy morsel of love! Available only for the month of September --- good thing I will be in Chicago in a couple of weeks!
ETSY artist, PIENOW, introduces us to ECCHR. Be wary of Ecchr, for he can be very malicious. He may seem lovable, but do not trust Ecchr, for he is very selfish and loves to play pranks.
Local 'Survivor' and cupcake fan Erinn Lobdell will be joining us to judge to PROJECT CUPCAKE fashion challenge at GOLDI on September 26. While stranded 38 days and finishing 3rd in Tocantins, Brazil; she developed a dreamy fascination to getting her cupcake on when she returned to Milwaukee. With the help of PROJECT CUPCAKE, she will fulfill that fantasy!
Yep, get your kids packed and settled back into school. Enjoy the remainder of the summer weather. IronCupcake:Earth will return with all new challenges and prizes on OCTOBER 1st. See ya then!
Today we are trying to get #cupcakes to trend on Twitter today. So, get on board, tweet the #cupcakes to fame! To inspire you, a photo of my friends most sweet and delicious daughter, EJ. A photo that is too fantastic not to sure. She has her big brother, Jack, to thank for her ensemble!
Yes, its true! London's long distance neighbor to the north, Leeds, is the home of the newest IronCupcake chapter! Welcome IronCupcake:Leeds!!! To be honest, I didn't really know much of Leeds, so I did a little research to see how the IronCupcake challenge would thrive. Well, its about 140 miles outside of London and is hope to The University of Leeds, which is one of the largest higher education institutions in the UK with more than 30,000 students from 130 countries! PLUS, Johnny Cupcakes spoke at the College of Art & Design back in June. So, it would appear that there are a whole lotta cupcake eaters in those parts! Many congrats and welcome to Zoe! Stay tuned to learn about her first challenge!
Wouldn't it be great to have an IronCupcake:Local chapter where you live? These events get bigger and bigger and more fun everytime around. We have had more than 25 here in Milwaukee and in some ways it feels that we are just getting started. To learn more about bringing IronCupcake your way, check out my etsy page today!
Look at my sweet babies. Bailey and Kahlua (top) LOVE LOVE LOVE their new, CHEAP cat beds. I found them at, of all places, CVS - for only $5.99. They are kind of like catcake liners. Soft and squishy and they are drawn to them for some reason. So bizarre. They were purring all about it to their Auntie Rosie (below) and she ran out and got one, too!
Look what I found on my desk this morning! A delicious new cupcake charm in the shop-o-sphere! Check out this lemon-violet cupcake with crystals and silver trim from Juicy Couture! JUST RELEASED and super sweet! Available online or where Juicy products are sold!
As you can imagine, I get cupcake photos, links and blog addresses emailed to my daily. Stuff that other cupcake fans think I would like to see; or perhaps, talk about here on the blog. Generally speaking, I do not hear from my male friends when it comes to cupcake content. Let's face it, this is primarily a girly love. But that all changed this week when my friend Val (a guy) sent me this link, womansday.com, 15 Incredibly Decorated Cupcakes, via facebook. I was flattered that he would even think of me, but then gave him a hard time when I noticed that it was from Women's Day magazine. I have seen most of these cupcakes before, especially the beauties from Bakerella; but I was pleased, none the less, that he thought to share. But then...another friend of mine, Jim, sent me the same link last night. (This is the same Jim that took those beautiful photos of IronCupcake earlier this week.) WHAT?!?! Two men, sharing the same link? Reason enough to blog about it and pass it on to all of you.
I asked Ma Ploy to write a review of her experience in the Vroman's Cupcake Bake-Off! I am so proud that she entered and met some cool cupcake folks. Mom didn't win, but she did get the top position on Vroman's blog....awesome! Enjoy!
Well, ma held her own, but it wasn't easy, considering all of the bright young talent. They showed up with their yummy creations to the Pasadena, Ca. Vroman's bookstore's first - of many, we hope- cupcake bake off. Among the entries were a young brother and sister, Natasha and George, and another young entrepreneur named Jac who's laying the foundation for her own baking empire. The final winner, and star of the evening, though, was the artistic and talented Ann Marie, who decorated delicious cupcakes with handmade chocolate butterflies, yummy AND stunning to look at. It's no wonder she took the blue ribbon, and took home a copy of "Martha Stewart's Cupcakes 175 Inspired Ideas For Everyone's Favorite Treat". Thanks to all of the Vroman folks for showing us their hospitality.
Natasha and George...watch out Iron Chef, here they come!
Part of the "crowd", and I think I see a photographer from Saveur (?)....hmmmmm! maybe not.
A couple of months ago, Ma Ploy got a MacBook. See, I live and breathe by my (nearly dead) Mac and she knows that I can not live without it. She had a Mac years ago and then got a PC laptop and now she is back where all people belong. She goes to visit her boyfriends at the Apple Store in Pasadena (uh, yeah, my dad has boyfriends there, too) once a week for tutorial...and dammit, she is learning things!!! YEAH, MOM!
This week, it is how to get photos off her camera and on to her computer. And these are her test shots. Vroman's is her most fave of bookstores and look what she found in the window. A Cupcake Bakeoff – THIS THURSDAY!
So, what is my mom doing today? Mastering her entry. YES!!! Ma Ploy is entering the bake-off! Those booky folks at Vroman's had no idea that the mother of the Milwaukee Cupcake Queen was in their midst. If you are in the San Gabrial Valley and want to get YOUR cupcake on, you should enter, too! But, just so you know, my Mom is gonna win.
I am excited to announce a special event brought to you by IronCupcake:Milwaukee and the awesome folks at Goldi's! A one-day only, ultimate cupcake decorating challenge. Six highly-skilled cupcake decorating machines will be presenting their best FASHION-themed cupcake to a group of local celebrity judges...including none other than THE one and only Goldi, herself!!! Check out the flyer above and mark your calendars for an afternoon of sweet shopping and cupcake consumption!
In spite of a ridiculously humid night, the fruit was fresh and ripe...SUMMER FRUIT that is.
With over 150 in attendance, and a special visit from our friends OUTPOST FOODS. We also had visitors from our new friends from MILWAUKEE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY, thanks to all in attendance, $136 were donated to their organization. In return, they were kind enough to come and enjoy the fun AND provide some raffle prizes as well. As always, it was another sweet and delicious time at IronCupcake:Milwaukee.
The winner in the TASTE category with a very close vote with the win going to Jennifer and Hina and their Razzed-Up Mango Cupcakes! A moist mango cake with a vibrant mango glaze and raspberry drizzle, topped with whipped cream and a fresh raspberry. Excuse me while I dream for a moment.
There was no denying that the belle of the ball was little Miss Strawberry Shortcake. The Berry Sweet with a Special Treat Cupcake by Erin was a massive hit. A runaway win for presentation, as well as the partner's pick from Outpost Foods. It was a white chocolate cheesecake with an oreo crust, a layer of fresh strawberry puree and then drenched in a brandy apricot glaze. All that and then topped with a white chocolate cupcake and buttercream. I think it is fitting to mention that Erin's display included a fully edible fondant Strawberry Shortcake figurine that was simply gorgeous. Sigh...
As if all the sweetness was not enough, we can not go without mentioning that Kyle and his crew from Wisconsin Foodie were on hand filming for an upcoming episode. (Kyle is shown above with Presentation/Partner Pick winner Erin.) They even followed some of our bakers; Susie, Ashley and Natasha, as they were baking over the weekend. Stay tuned for news on the episode.
No, I have not forgotten. One last, but VERY IMPORTANT note. We were honored to have photographer James Conway on-hand taking some of the most beautiful IronCupcake photos ever and I can not thank him enough for spending the evening with us. Check out a slide show of some of his favorites below: ---

A 1,224-pound triple vanilla cupcake with pink frosting has set a record as the world's largest.
The sugary behemoth was unveiled Saturday at the Woodward Dream Cruise classic cars event in Royal Oak, Mich.
A Guinness World Records adjudicator was on hand to certify the cupcake's girth. It was more than eight times the size of the previous record holder. The colossal cupcake took 12 hours to bake and included 800 eggs and 200 pounds each of sugar and flour. Slices of the cupcake were served in exchange for donations to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer organization.
Ryan Abood’s company, GourmetGiftsBasket.com, pulled off the feat with help from Merengue Bakery Café of California and Jensen Industries in Whitmore Lake that loaned them their oven, which generally is used to bake the wings of aircraft.
The cake, which took 12 hours to bake, contains 700 pounds of batter, which includes 800 eggs, 200 pounds of sugar, 200 pounds of flour and clocked in at an estimated 2 million calories. This wasn't Abood's first attempt. Earlier this week he had mixed up a cupcake that would have clocked in at a 7,000-pounds, but was ruined overnight when the expanding cupcake dislodged a heating rod in its enormous oven.
Today was a good day in the land of the Milwaukee Cupcake Queen. I was invited to appear, live, on a local morning show, The Morning Blend. Alison de Castro (right) and co-host for the day, 94.5 The Lake FM's Matthew Blades were gracious hosts who seemed genuinely interested in all of the cupcake chaos that we IronCupcakers have been inflicting upon the city.
Yes, while in the TMJ4 studios, I looked everywhere for Craig Koplien. Yes, I think he is that intellectually hunky type (I actually said that in an email to him once...ha ha ha). But, alas, he was off today. Damn! :-)
It was a really terrific time. Many thanks to everyone at channel 4 for inviting me to be a part of their show. To check out the segment, scroll to the bottom of this post.
Only I would notice that Kermit the Frog was way up high on a shelf watching over the studio. One of the camera men said that he has been living up there as long as anyone can remember.
