Our Hearts for Haiti and the End of an Era

Hearts for Haiti bake sale

Last Friday was not only IronCupcake:Milwaukee's CANDY challenge. It was the culmination of the IronCupcake:Earth Hearts for Haiti Challenge. Together with Karen Tack and Alan Richardson of Hello, Cupcake! and What's New, Cupcake?; fame we challenged the universe to do what they could to help with the rebuild efforts after the earthquake disaster in Haiti earlier this year.

Karen and Alan created a custom cupcake dedicated to the people of Haiti. We created signs to download and asked our bakers to host bake sales that would contribute to various non-profits dedicated to helping the Haitian rebuild efforts. Also, as part of the fun, Kati and her IronCupcake:Moorestown gang had a massively successful event where they made a hearty donation as well.

Streaming the announcement live on UStream at our Friday night event, we revealed two things to the world. Number one...and most importantly, our winner was drawn at random, and Lauren of 32 above/BooRadley's Cupcakes from Monterey, CA takes the cake. But our other bake sale participants are so awesome that everyone will go home with some prizes!

Lauren gets a SPECTACULAR prize package from all of our usual IronCupcake prize providers:
er efforts, she will be receiving the following amazing prizes:
PLUS extra goodies from:
Number two, was the announcement that IronCupcake:Earth is wrapped up with this event. It has been a super fun couple of years, but like all awesome things it's best days are behind us. The IronCupcake:Earth blog will go down at the end of June and have locked down the Flickr group so as to not confuse anyone looking to still join. IronCupcake:Milwaukee and the many LOCAL challenges are still going strong and I encourage you to start one in your town if you haven't already. There is nothing like the community and friendship that has blossomed from these events. IronCupcake has changed my life and I thank you all. See you next month in Milwaukee!
