I am a big supporter of local business. I don't care if you are Republican or Democrat (no, really, I don't) and I don't care who you voted for. I don't care where you go to church or who you marry. What I do care about is that this country is struggling and our government - both sides - doesn't seem to think it is serious enough to really take care of.
I will ALWAYS choose our local coffee roaster before I stop by Starbucks. But, truth be told, I don't have a local roaster in my new neighborhood, so yes...I am an avid support of the mermaid and her chain of coffee minions. Today, I want to do a MASSIVE hooray and shout-out to the CEO of Starbucks, Howard Schultz, who recently addressed our government and other corporate leaders with a promise, not a threat.
Starbucks Corp. CEO Howard Schultz is urging other CEOs to not contribute to any U.S. political campaigns until the nation’s leaders resolve its finances.
The leader of the coffee giant urged the halt in contributions as concern builds over the effect that political wrangling in Washington, D.C., may be having on the economy.
To merit any further political donations, Congress and the President must “deliver a fiscally disciplined, long-term debt and deficit plan to the American people,” Schultz wrote in an email Monday that reached the leaders of more than 3,000 publicly traded companies.
“We invite leaders of businesses -- indeed all concerned Americans -- to join us in this pledge,” he wrote. (source: foxnews.com)The leader of NASDAQ has publicly supported this effort and the head of the New York Stock Exchange has forwarded this challenge on to hundreds of other CEO's. Starbucks claims to be getting great support, in private, what we need is some big guns to join them in this foot stomping stand against the B.S. that is going down in Washington D.C.
Care to read more about Schultz' effort, just about anyone and everyone has covered this story, so...go ahead, take a sip!
