If you have not formulated the thesis of the work, it means that you do not yet know what you want to write about. And nothing here will help a carefully sorted notes or a precisely prepared plan. This thesis is the heart of the thesis. Without it, your work will be schematic and boring, and writing it will become a chore for you.

What is a thesis statement

In short, the thesis is what you want to announce to the world with your work. The thesis is not the same as the topic of work. It is somehow the answer to the research problem in this topic. The thesis is the crux of your thoughts on a topic of your choice. It is also more than just the main thought of the work – it shows the way of reasoning, the style of thinking of the author.

To formulate such a thesis, you must believe that you can say something absolutely fresh and new on a topic of your choice. Only then will your work be full of the joy of the explorer and not become a forced argument by the author who works over books of duress.

How to form a thesis statement

The thesis may be an interpretative idea, an interesting comparison, the effect of a thorough analysis, a new solution, demonstrating a relationship or influence. Of course, the content of the thesis depends on the field you are dealing with. Still, every thesis should be:

  • brave:
You should make it clear that you are aware of your knowledge and are confident, which of course cannot turn into insolence. Making a bold thesis must be supported by great knowledge.
  • simple:
Tell clearly and openly what you want to prove in your work
  • creative:
Do not repeat long ago or even compile them. Do not resume long-closed discussions.
  • suggestive:
Formulate the thesis in such a way that it provokes, amazes, intrigues.
  • open:
Let your thesis give you thought and an excuse for further research

Creating such a thesis is a big challenge. However, this is the only chance to write an interesting work. A good thesis is recognized by the fact that it evolves while writing, changes, and thus: becomes a record of the author’s thought process. To achieve this, you need to create a preliminary thesis project at the beginning of the work, not to add it to the already written text.

So if you say at work that, for example, “the phenomenon of X is a problem for society Y” then this is your thesis – your statement that you accept at work. As to this thesis, you can make assumptions. For example, that “the phenomenon of X is a problem because of the Z factor” or that “society Y would be better off if it solved the X issue in this way.” This already leads your research to the hypothesis stage.

The hypotheses are subject to verification or checking. The first issue is to determine what is worth checking at all. Because a well-structured scientific research should expand our current knowledge or illuminate old phenomena in a new way – and therefore be innovative – it is worth hypothesizing in relation to such issues that will contribute to this extension of knowledge.
